Caring for Sterling Silver Jewelry

Today I want to share with my readers how easy it is to care for your SilverTrove jewelry, or for any sterling silver jewelry.

To clean your jewelry, I recommend using a soft toothbrush and a little toothpaste.  Tartar control toothpaste works best, but any toothpaste you have on hand will work.  Make sure to rinse well while continuing to brush so no toothpaste is left.  Dry with a soft cloth to avoid water spotting.

To prevent tarnish, store your sterling silver jewelry in an airtight container and away from direct light.  A small food storage container or zip lock bag will work great.  Silver tarnishes faster in some climates.  If you have problems with tarnish in your area, let me know and I will include a specially treated tarnish resistant storage bag with your order.  You can also purchase silver dip that removes tarnish almost instantly.  If you purchased an oxidized piece, meaning that it has blackened areas, you won't want to use a silver dip because it will remove the oxidation.  Instead you can purchase a jewelry polishing cloth that will have your treasure bright and shiny in a minute or two.  If you need help finding any of these jewelry care products, please let me know.  I'm always happy to help!

Also, if your jewelry becomes dull because of small scratches, you can return it to me and I will polish it up like new again free of charge.  I also offer many free and low-cost repair services to my customers.  Please contact me through my Etsy shop before returning your jewelry.

With a little occasional attention, your sterling silver pieces can become heirlooms for many generations to enjoy!

Nail Art Experiments

Hello readers!  Today I wanted to add something just for fun.  My daughter and I have been experimenting with nail art designs.  We are currently learning Water Marbling and it is very addictive!  It's almost magical to watch the polish form circles on top of the water.  If you haven't tried it and you owe yourself a play day, it's the perfect thing; So much fun!  You'll find a couple of good tutorials on my Pinterest here:  https://www.pinterest.com/silvertrove/nail-art-ideas/

Today my daughter, Malory, painted her 3-year-old daughter's nails.  If you have kids, you already know that's not an easy thing to do.  Even if, by some miracle, you manage to get the polish on those tiny fingers perfectly, it's next to impossible to get a three-year-old to be still long enough for the polish to dry.  Anyway, there are pictures all over the web of nail art and at least half of them show the nail polish bottle held in the hand with the artfully painted nails, so just for laughs, here's our three-year-old version!
That little hand is so cute, I don't think it matters how the polish came out, tee-hee!  By the way, my beautiful granddaughter served as my model for my Child's Initial Pendant in my Etsy shop, too!

All my initial pendants are currently on sale!

Final Note:  When we get our water marbling projects right, I will post a pic of the grown-up version!

In-Stock Names for SilverTrove Calligraphy Script Name or Word Necklaces

Over time, I have made tons of my Calligraphy Script Name, Monogram and Word Necklaces, Bracelets and Initial Pendants.   Most of them were custom made for my wonderful customers, but I have also made a few as samples and a few by mistake.  Some of them are completed pieces ready to ship and others are in various stages of progress.  Below is a list of the names and the details about them as well as an estimate of how long it will take to have them ready to ship.  If you want one of the completed pieces, but would like a different chain type, length or any other variable, I would be happy to alter them to your preferences.  Please understand that this will take extra time.  I'm always in the process of working on a batch of jewelry orders and I will fit these alterations in when I get to the appropriate stage of the current batch.  If you want an estimate on how long this will take, please contact me by visiting http://SilverTrove.etsy.com, signing into your Etsy account and clicking on the envelope icon at the top left of any page within my shop.  Please contact me as described above if you have questions, would like to see a picture or would like to order.

A Thanksgiving Treat-

In memory of my dear mother, one of her famous quick, easy and delicious desserts!  She passed away on Christmas Eve, 2012 but baking something delicious from her recipe collection, "Real Grandmas Don't Serve Spinach," is one of the ways I honor her and keep her memory alive.

Pumpkin Pie Dessert has become one of our favorite recipes and is often requested by friends and family.  We serve it all year round, although we usually make traditional  pumpkin and pecan pies for Thanksgiving.  This year we will leave the rolling pin behind and waiver from tradition a bit without sacrificing the aromas and flavors of pumpkin pie.  By popular demand, Pumpkin Pie Dessert will be the star attraction on our Thanksgiving dessert table.  For those pecan pie lovers, I'll be mixing toasted pecans into the crumb topping.  It's so easy and quick, children can help but it's guaranteed to rate right up there with gourmet desserts that take hours to make.  With it's sweet crumbly crust, rich filling and perfect topping, I know it will win the hearts of your guests this Thanksgiving or anytime throughout the year.  So without further ado, I give you:

PUMPKIN PIE DESSERT

-from, "Real Grandma's Don't Serve Spinach" by Jeanne S. Braden

1 package of yellow cake mix (reserve one cup for topping)
1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter or margarine, softened
1 egg
-Mix and press in the bottom of a 9" by 11" pan.

FILLING:
1 large can (29 oz.) or 2 small cans (15 oz.) pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2/3 cups of milk
-Mix filling and spread over crust.

TOPPING:

1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup ground, toasted pecans, optional
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine, cold
